무라카미 하루키의 『1Q84』에 나타난 ‘디태치먼트’와 ‘커미트먼트’
본고는 선행연구에서 다루지 않은 『1Q84』의 등장인물들이 겪는 시스템 내에서의 불합리성과 그러한 통제를 벗어나려는 개인의 의지와 ‘관계 맺기’를 디태치먼트와 커미트먼트의 한 형태로 살펴 무라키미 하루키의 작풍 변화를 고찰하였다. 1979년 『바람의 노래를 들어라』를 발표한 이래로 대상과의 거리 두기를 유지한 무라카미 하루키는 두 차례 해외에서 장기 체류한 후에 자신이 속한 ‘일본’으로 돌아와 사회적으로 커다란 이슈를 불러일으키는 문제에 대하여 적극적인 관심을 보였다. 그리고 작품에서 삼인칭을 사용하고, 가족이 등장하는 등의 변화가 있었다. 이러한 변화가 그대로 드러난 작품이 2009년~2010년에 간행된 『1Q84』(전 3권)이며 이는 무라카미 하루키의 ‘종합적 작품’이라고 일컬어진다. 『1Q84』에는 기존의 디태치먼트의 태도와 1992년부터 잡지『新潮』에 발표한 『태엽 감는 새 연대기』(1994~1995)에서 시작된 커미트먼트의 형태가 그려지고 있다. 커미트먼트를 촉발시킨 배경에는 먼저 해외에서 바라본 일본과 일본인에 대한 무라카미 하루키의 시각 변화가 있고, 1995년에 연달아 일어난 1월의 한신대지진과 3월의 옴진리교 지하철사린사건이 있다. 특히 옴진리교 테러에 깊은 관심을 보인 무라카미 하루키는 『1Q84』에서 단체와 개인과의 소통을 중요하게 여기는 ‘공동생활체’가 종교집단 ‘선구’로 변화되면서 나타나는 디태치먼트의 세계를 그리고 있다. 한편으로는 커미트먼트의 한 형태를 여주인공 아오마메의 ‘처녀 수태’로 설정함으로써 생명을 매개로 한 ‘관계 맺기’를 시도했다고 볼 수 있다.

Haruki Murakami's ‘Detachment’ and ‘Commitment’ in 1Q84
1Q84(total volume 3) is considered as a comprehensive work of Haruki Murakami (hereinafter referred to as Haruki) It can be described as ‘change’ in Haruki, who has maintained his distance from the target since releasing Hear the wind sing in 1979, after he returned to “Japan” from abroad and showed active interest in raising social issues. The work 1Q84 depicts an equivalent relationship between the existing attitude of detachment and commitment which began with the The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle(1994-1995, Volume 3). The reason for triggering of the commitment is the change in Haruki's view of Japan and the Japanese people from abroad, and the 1995 Hanshin Earthquake and the Aum Shinrikyo subway Sarin incident. In particular, Haruki, who showed keen interest in the terror of Aum Shinrikyo, depicted the detachment through a relationship between religion and individual and an individual's psychological independence toward the world of commitment. This writing contemplates the change in Haruki’s style, focusing on irrationality of the social system experienced by male and female characters in 1Q84, and commitment through individual's free will to escape such control and standing all alone.
