문학적 상상을 통한 재난 경험의 확장 ─ 고바야시 에리카 『트리니티, 트리니티, 트리니티』와 방사능의 기억 ─
동일본대지진 이후 10년이 흘렀다. 코로나 팬데믹으로 일 년 연기되기는 했지만 ‘부흥오륜’을 내세운 도쿄 올림픽・패럴림픽이 무사히 개최되면서, 부흥의 가속화와 함께 재난에 대한 망각도 진행 중이다. 하지만 후쿠시마 원전사고 직후에 발령된 원 자력긴급사태선언은 여전히 이어지는 중이고, 여전히 많은 사람들이 피난 생활을 계 속하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이렇듯 원전사고가 여전히 끝나지 않은 재난이라는 관 점에서 동일본대지진에 대한 사회적 망각에 맞서는 작품으로서 고바야시 에리카의 『트리니티, 트리니티, 트리니티』를 분석하였다. 이 소설은 방사능 오염을 ‘트리니티’ 라는 가상의 질병과 연결시킴으로써 경계를 넘어 전염되고 확산되는 재난이라는 문 제를 제기한다. ‘트리니티’에 걸린 노인들은 방사능의 기억을 가지게 되며, 그들이 가지고 다니는 ‘불행의 돌’ 즉 방사성 물질이 그러한 기억을 가져다준다. 소설은 2020년 도쿄 올림픽을 배경으로 함으로써 이른바 ‘부흥오륜’의 이면에서 진행되는 원전사고에 대한 망각에 문제를 제기하는 동시에, 올림픽과 방사능을 계기로 갖가지 전쟁과 재난들을 연결하고 상기시키기도 한다. 이 소설은 이렇듯 후쿠시마 원전사고 의 영향을 받아 쓰인 문학작품 가운데서도 이를 다른 시대, 다른 장소의 재난들과 연결하는 세계사적인 관점을 가지고 있다는 데에 문학적 의의가 있다. 주인공인 ‘나’ 는 ‘트리니티’나 화면 너머의 재난과 자신의 거리를 계속해서 만들어내며 선 긋기를 시도하지만, 소설은 그러한 안전한 외부란 존재하지 않음을 보여준다. 소설을 읽음으 로써 과거와 현재 그리고 미래의 재난의 기억이 자신의 것처럼 내부로 밀려오고, 이 를 통해 재난을 나와 무관한 것으로 외부화할 수 없음을 알게 된다면 거기서 우리는 경험을 독자들에게로 확장시키는 재난문학의 가능성을 볼 수 있을 것이다.

Expansion of Disaster Experiences through Literary Imagination : Kobayashi Erica’s Trinity, Trinity, Trinity and the Memories of Radioactivity
Ten years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake took place. The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which put forward “Recovery Olympics,” was postponed for a year due to Corona Pandemic, and finally, held this year. However, the declaration of a nuclear emergency issued shortly after the Fukushima nuclear accident is still ongoing, and many people are still evacuating their homes. In the present paper, we analyzed Kobayashi Erica's Trinity, Trinity, Trinity as a work against social oblivion of the Great East Japan Earthquake from the perspective that nuclear accidents are not over yet. This novel raised the problem of a disaster that spread across boundaries by linking radioactive contamination with a hypothetical disease called Trinity. The novel raises the issue of oblivion to the nuclear accident behind the socalled “Recovery Olympics” set in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, while connecting and reminding various wars and disasters through the Olympics and radioactivity. The main character, “I,” tries to draw a line by creating a distance between “trinity” or disasters beyond the screen, but the novel shows that such a safe externality actually does not exist. By reading the novel, the memories of disasters in the past, present, and future are pushed inside as they are, and through this, we can perceive the possibility of ‘disaster literature’ that expands the experience to the readers.
