오키나와인과 일본인의 ‘오키나와문제’ 인식 - 오타 마사히데(大田昌秀)의 사상을 중심으로 -
본 연구는 ‘전후(戰後) 오키나와는 왜 끊임없이 투쟁하는가?’라는 질문에서 시작한다. 전후 오키나와 역사를 ‘투쟁의 역사’라고 해도 좋을 만큼 오키나와인은 끊임없이 권력에 대항해왔다. 그런데 이러한 투쟁의 면면을 살펴보면 그 원인에 ‘오키나와문제’가 있다. ‘오키나와문제’란 간단히 말하면 미일관계에 의해 오키나와에 주둔하는 미군기지와 관련한 다양한 문제를 말한다. 오타 마사히데(大田昌秀)는 이러한 오키나와문제의 근원에는 메이지정부의 류큐처분이 있다고 보았다. 독자적인 문화를 가지고 있던 류큐왕국은 1879년 메이지정부에 의해 오키나와현으로 일본에 편입되었다. 이후의 류큐인은 동화정책을 거치며 일본인이 되었으며, 전후 처리과정에서 오키나와가 일본에서 분리된 후 오키나와인, 미국인 혹은 그 무엇이 되었다. 그 과정에서 오키나와문제에 미군기지문제가 더해져 오늘날까지 지속되고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 오키나와문제가 지속되는 근본적인 이유로 오키나와인과 일본인이 서로를 규정하는 범위가 다르기 때문이라 가정하고 오타 마사히데의 사상을 통해 이를 규명하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이에 우선 일본과 오키나와의 역사과정을 통해 일본(인)의 오키나와(인)에 대한 인식을 검토한 다음, 오타 마사히데의 사상을 통해 오키나와인의 아이덴티티 변용과정에 ‘타자(他者)’ 혹은 ‘자아(自我)’로서의 일본인이 존재함을 고찰함으로써 위의 가설을 검증하였다.

Recognition of “Okinawa Problem” of Okinawan and Japanese : Focused on the Thoughts of Masahide Ota
The study begins with the question “Why has Okinawa constantly been struggling after the war”? The history of Okinawa in the postwar period can be considered a history of struggle, and the Okinawan people have been constantly fighting against power. However, if we look past this struggle, there is the “Okinawa problem.” In short, the “Okinawa problem” refers to various issues related to the U.S. bases in Okinawa as a result of U.S.-Japan relations. The Ryukyu Kingdom, which had its own culture, was incorporated in Japan as the Okinawa Prefecture by the Meiji Government in 1879. Later, Ryukyuan underwent assimilation (as determined by policy) and became Japanese, and subsequently became Okinawa, American, or whatever, as Okinawa was separated from Japan in the post-war process. In the process, the Okinawa problem was added to the problem of the U.S. military base and continues to this day. This study assumes that the fundamental reason for the continued existence of the Okinawa problem is that the Okinawan people have different definitions of each other. To prove this hypothesis, I looked into Ota's ideas. The above hypothesis was verified by reviewing Japanese perception of Okinawa by considering the historical process with Okinawa and considering the existence of Japanese in the process of changing the identity of Okinawa via the thoughts of Masahide Ota.
