한일 웹소설에 관한 일고찰 ― 웹소설 플랫폼을 중심으로 ―
2010년대 들어서 한국과 일본 이야기 시장에서 주목을 받은 소설군이라고 한다면 웹소설이라고 할 수 있다. 웹소설이란 웹 공간 안에서 생산・소비・유통되는 소설을 총칭한다. 이전에도 인터넷에서 창작・소비되는 소설이 존재했지만, 웹소설을 전문적으로 다루는 플랫폼의 등장과 부흥이 웹소설의 기점이 된 것은 양국의 공통된 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 웹소설은 한일 양국에서 가장 주목받는 이야기 콘텐츠이면서 앞으로 발전 가능성이 높다는 점에서 연구가치가 있다. 단순히 기존의 대중소설이 웹으로 공간을 옮긴 것이 아니라 웹이라는 매체를 통해 기존의 대중소설이 변형된다는 점에서 웹소설은 기존의 문학작품 연구 방법이 아니라 그를 둘러싼 환경까지 복합적으로 살펴보아야 한다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식에서부터 양국의 웹소설을 둘러싼 환경, 특히 웹소설 플랫폼을 중심으로 고찰해보았다. 요컨대 웹소설은 기존의 다양한 장르소설을 수용하면서도 각각 웹소설 플랫폼의 독자가 원하는 방식으로 가장 적절하게 변형된 소설의 형태라고 할 수 있다. 또 이러한 플랫폼은 양국의 장르소설과 인터넷을 둘러싼 역사 속에서 구축된 결과이다. 예를 들어 모바일 환경에 특화된 ‘에브리스타’에서는 휴대폰에 최적화된 오락소설이 유행하고, 독자와 작가 사이의 커뮤니케이션이 활발한 ‘소설가가 되자’에서는 작가와 독자의 소통을 바탕으로 새로운 유행과 템플릿을 만들어낸다. 또, 문피아처럼 인터넷 소설 시대의 문화의 여파가 유료 연재시 최소 글자수를 제시하는 등 각 플랫폼의 특성에 맞춰 웹소설의 서사나 형태가 바뀔 수 있다. 또 네이버 웹소설처럼 편집자가 작품의 인상을 좌우하는 표지와 삽화를 결정하여 작품에 영향을 미치는 등, 플랫폼 특징에 따라 웹소설이 상품화의 결과도 달라질 수 있다. 이러한 사실은 웹소설을 연구할 때 웹소설 플랫폼에 대한 연구가 포함되어야함을 의미한다.

A Study on Web Novels from Korea and Japan : Based on Platforms of Web Novels
A popular genre of novel in South Korea and Japan is web novels. The term “Web novels” refers to novels that are produced, consumed, and distributed on the Internet. In the past, novels were created online on the Internet without a platform for web novels, which are characteristics the two countries have in common. Web novels have research value in the sense that they are attracting much attention from these countries with a huge growth potential. In addition, popular novels were moved from offline to online, which could change existing popular novels. Considering these, we should complexly explore research methods on existing literature and the relevant environment. Based on this thought, we examined the environment of web novels in Korea and Japan, especially focusing on platforms. In short, web novels are a most appropriately transformed genre, embracing different genre novels in ways readers of each platform want. Furthermore, the platforms are the result of the evolution of genre novels and online novels in the countries. A more active review and discussion about web novels requires further understanding of the platforms.
